Summer Pastoral Internship
Looking for Leadership Opportunities and Mentorship from an Experienced Pastor?
Each summer our church hosts young men training for the ministry for the purpose of giving them hands on ministry experience. For 10 weeks, they work side by side with our Pastor in all kinds of ministry tasks. Our internship is designed to take the principled subjects you are learning in college and give them a practical outlet in a local church. This is not a one task, basic volunteer position. This is a full immersion, in the ministry, experience where we get you involved in every area that we can.

What's The Next Step?
How Do I Apply?

**PRO TIP: there is no commitment until the end of the process. Through the whole process, we are low pressure. So feel free to text and ask questions. We recommend that you go through interview process to find out if it's the right fit for you and to gain experience with healthy interviews. You will never be pressured. **
This process is designed to give you experience in a normal ministry hiring process. Those steps are usually 1) posting of the job, 2) your application to the job, 3) interviews, 4) an official job offer, 5) your accepting or declining the job, and 6) preparations for starting.
1) Text Pastor Booher to set up a 5 minute Q&A phone call for you to ask questions and gauge your interest level.
2) Apply for the Position: If you are interested, then we’ll schedule a 30 minute in person (at your college) or Zoom meeting to complete your application.
3) We Consider Your Application: Once you have completed your application interview, we will pray over it for 3 weeks and contact your references.
a) If we determine that it isn’t the best fit at this time, we will let you know and wish you well.
b) If we determine that it would be a good fit for us, we will extend an official offer for you to join us for the summer.
4) You Choose Whether or Not You Want to Accept Our Offer: Once we extend an official offer to you, then you, your family, your Pastor and other counsellors may take 1 week to pray over it and consider accepting.
a) If you decide that it is not the best fit for you, we will rejoice with you in whatever God has planned for you. God may open the door for you to train with us at another time.
b) If you decide that you will accept, we will begin making plans for your arrival in May.
5) Preparation to Arrive: Once you accept our offer, we will set up arrival times, lodging details, and how we will cover your travel expenses.

“I am so grateful God allowed me to do the internship. I didn’t know what to expect going into it, but I soon found that I was fully involved with every aspect of ministry. From children’s church to leading singing, I was involved. I learned so much during the summer and received great advice that I will carry into my future ministry. Everyone at Jackson County was so kind and had a great love for the Lord! You will not find a more welcoming church to serve at. I ate a lot, prayed a lot, grew closer to the Lord, and made great friends. Even with all the hard work Jackson County had fun and kept spirits high. I would recommend this internship to anyone who feels called to ministry! You will sharpen your skills and find what your strengths are. I'm incredibly thankful for Pastor Booher and everyone who invested in me during the summer!”

“My expectation coming into this internship was that I was just going to be a ‘help.’ After being there for a couple of weeks, I discovered that I was the one who was leading and planning things. I was basically a staff person. At this internship you will learn many things. Probably the biggest thing I have learned is that ministry is about people and ministry is not a ‘clock in clock out’ mentality. At Jackson County Baptist Church you will meet a great church that loves the Lord and also loves you and will invest in your life. The people at Jackson County Baptist Church are so loving and so kind it feels like home. Also, you will meet and begin to form a friendship with one of the nicest and caring people you will ever meet, Pastor Matt Booher. I consider Pastor Matt to be a good friend! He has taught me so much and I have watched his example of how he leads and loves God’s people. I am truly grateful for Pastor and Jackson County Baptist Church.”

“I was not sure what to expect coming to Jackson County Baptist Church. Pastor Booher believes that experience is the best teacher and finds a way to hand you that experience at every single turn. His theme passage for internships is from Romans 5, which says, "we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
-
And hope maketh not ashamed." From planning a "big day" to participating in, and even leading various weekly areas of the ministry, he shows you absolutely everything. Pastor Booher's drive to develop the next generation should be highly valued by anyone actively seeking to be developed in ministry. I learned much from him and from Jackson County Baptist Church and will be forever indebted to them for their investment.”

“I am very thankful for my time at Jackson County Baptist Church. I learned so many things from Pastor Booher, like being organized, how to lead a group in the ministry, and how to counsel young people. I want to encourage anyone that is able to intern with JCBC to do it, because you will not be disappointed with how it will better you for Gods glory.”
-
Randy Holt (Crown College) -
“As I prepared for the internship at JCBC, I really didn’t know what to expect. I made a few phone calls to people who knew the church and Pastor Booher personally, and what I found was that both of them have a great reputation and are very serious about the things of God. If I could sum up my time in just a few words it would be life changing. No doubt the best ministry experience I’ve had to this day.”

“The internship was an incredible opportunity that the Lord used in my life to help grow me. The internship was packed full of things to do, things to learn, and people to meet and invest in. Overall that internship was one of the most incredible adventures that I had ever experienced in my life. And if I could go back and relive it I would not hesitate to re-experience every second of it!”

Joel Pritchard (Heartland Baptist Bible College) -
“I had the opportunity to be short term shepherded by Pastor Booher who encouraged us to work on the areas of life and ministry that we were weak in, and most importantly he helped us to have a daily walk with the Lord. I was given the opportunity to preach many times, work with young people, be active in many ministries such as choir, music ministry, technology, graphic designing, outreach ministries, church camp, attend a missions trip, plan special church events, visit local and nearby ministries, and invest and be invested in by the church. This was a unique and life changing internship that gives you a glimpse of what ministry is and what is required.”
